Attach File

Top  Previous  Next

Patient Icon You can associate a text, graphic, or sound file with a specific client. This command stores a reference in QuicDoc's database that includes the file name and location for any file you wish to attach to a selected client.

Note: Attachment files are launched in their associated programs. QuicDoc stores only the reference to the file and its location, not the file.

QF note How to attach a file

In the Patient window:

1.Select the client.
2.From the Patient menu, select Attachments.
3.Click the Attach button.
4.In the Attach File dialog box, select the folder location from the Look in field.
5.Select the file type in the Files of Type field.
6.Double click on the selected file to attach. The file will be listed under the patient name in the Attachments window.
7.Change the location of the attached file... look under Set Up \ Preferences

How to open attached files

Double click on the selected file in the Attachments window. The file will open in its associated application. For Example, a text file may open in Notepad, Word Perfect, or any associated word processor.

Note: Since QuicDoc stores only a reference of the file name and its application, if the file is deleted or the location is changed, you will no longer be able to access the file in QuicDoc. Also, since the attachment command does not store the file itself, only a reference to the file, if you change the file in any application, you will no longer be able to access the file in its original state when first attached.

How to use attached files

If you want to include information for other files directly in QuicDoc's database, as opposed to creating a reference to the file, you can copy the text into the appropriate field in QuicDoc. For instance, you can copy and paste psychological test results into the Results section in Psychological Testing section. Use the file application's edit commands to copy/paste.

Open the file you want include in your notes by double clicking on it in the Attachment window.
Select and copy file, or part of file, you want to copy. Use the application's Edit menu or keyboard command CTRL-C to copy.
Close or minimize the attachment's application.
Open the Documentation section, letter, etc., that you want to include the copied information and click in the target field.
Use the paste command, CTRL-V,  to paste information into the field.

How to delete an attached file association

1.Select the patient.
2.Select Attachments from Patients menu.
3.In the Attachment window, select the file to delete.
4.Drag and drop the listing into the trash can, or press the Delete key. You are not actually deleting the file itself. What you are deleting is the association of the file with a specific patient.
