Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is listed by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) on the National Registry which is a searchable online registry of treatment interventions. This National Registry, NREPP, cites EMDR as “…a one-on-one form of psychotherapy that is designed to reduce trauma-related stress, anxiety, and depression symptoms associated with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and to improve overall mental health functioning."
EMDR, a nationally recognized therapy, was originated by Dr. Francine Shapiro in the late nineteen-eighties. EMDR is an integrative psychotherapy approach that has been extensively researched and proven effective for the treatment of trauma.
